Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1976 Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general reporter with NBC News two years later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms, and an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. She traveled extensively with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
